‘Bahadurpurko Dantyakatha’ is happening at Mandala Theatre Nepal in Thapagaun. The play will run until January 11, 2026, with daily shows from 5:00 pm to 6:45 pm.
The production is a Nepali adaptation inspired by ‘Ballavpurer Roopkatha’, a widely acclaimed work of modern Indian theatre. It follows Bhupati Bahadur Sen, the debt-ridden last descendant of the once-prosperous royal family of Bahadurpur, who plans to sell his 400-year-old ancestral palace and move to Kathmandu in search of a fresh start.
The storyline takes a supernatural turn when Bhupati discovers that the palace is inhabited by the ghost of one of his ancestors, bound to the property by an ancient curse. As potential buyers visit the palace, the spirit repeatedly disrupts the sale through a series of comic and mildly frightening incidents. These disruptions drive the central conflict of the play while gradually revealing hidden family histories.
Alongside its comedic elements, the play introduces a romantic subplot and addresses broader themes of inheritance, tradition, and social change. According to the organisers, the production blends humour, gentle supernatural elements, and social commentary to engage contemporary audiences.
