Where European and Nepali stories meet
The 14th European Union Film Festival will feature 25 films from Europe and Nepal, exploring identity, resistance, and culture.Post Report
The 14th European Union Film Festival Nepal is happening on November 15-16, bringing together European filmmakers and emerging Nepali voices in a celebration of cinema without borders.
This year’s edition features 25 films, including 10 European features, six BAFTA-nominated shorts, and nine Nepali short films, exploring themes of identity, belonging, resistance, and transformation.
The festival is taking place across two cities—Kathmandu (Chhaya Center) on November 15 to 16, and in Pokhara (QFX Trade Mall) on November 21 to 23.
The European lineup includes ‘Banzo’ (Portugal), ‘Je’vida’ (Finland), ‘Happy’ (Austria), ‘Without Air’ (Hungary), and ‘The Girl from Tomorrow’ (France/Italy), along with a BAFTA Shorts Showcase from the UK featuring ‘Wander to Wonder’, ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors’, ‘Mog’s Christmas’, ‘Milk, and Adios’.
Complementing these are Nepali short films curated in collaboration with local filmmakers and film schools, including ‘What Grows in Thari Maila’s Vegetable Garden?’, ‘Chandani’, ‘Abyss’, and ‘Eternal Kinship’.
EUFF Nepal 2025 is organised by the EU Delegation to Nepal, in collaboration with embassies and cultural institutions representing EU Member States in Kathmandu and Delhi, including those of France, Germany, and Finland, as well as the British Council and UNESCO. All screenings are free, and the films will be shown with English subtitles.
In the lead-up to the festival, several parallel programmes are also happening:
‘Navigating Festivals, Funding and Co-Production Markets’ (November 9 to 12) introduces a four-day capacity-building workshop for 10 Nepali filmmakers.
‘What Next for the Film Industry?’ In collaboration with the British Council and UNESCO, a panel and roundtable featuring filmmakers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders discussing the UNESCO baseline study and strategies for a sustainable film ecosystem.
‘Reflections from the UK Film Study Tour’ (November 15) features a conversation with Nepali participants of the UK Film Study Tour, reflecting on their international experiences and the path toward a more globally connected film sector.
