Jerusha Rai, a renowned singer in Nepal’s indie music scene, has been missing since Thursday evening.

Rai left her house on Thursday evening, leaving behind her phone and a note. When Rai did not return home that night, her mother filed a missing person report with the police on Friday morning. As per police investigation, Rai was last seen in Sundarighat, near TU, Kritipur. According to SP Sudhir Raj Shahi of Lalitpur District Police Office, police have traced Rai’s last-known location from CCTV footage from the Sundarighat area.

“In the CCTV footage, Rai is seen wearing a black t-shirt and pants and walking alone,” added SP Shahi. “Police from Lalitpur and Kathmandu are working in collaboration to find her as soon as possible. And we are hopeful that we will find her.”

Rai’s friends and family have also alerted people about her disappearance through social media and have appealed to people to help find her in the areas she was last seen in.

The 30-year-old singer and music producer started her career singing English cover songs back in 2011. Rai soon started working on creating her own songs by experimenting with folk music. ‘Barud’ is her breakthrough song. The song was about the consequences of Nepal’s decade-long civil war.
