How Delhi spinner’s ‘6-7’ celebration travelled to English county cricket

A wicket celebration by a young Delhi cricketer became one of the talking points of Indian domestic cricket in August, attracting attention far beyond the tournament where it originated. The gesture was even recreated by India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal during a County Championship match in England.
Medhavi Bidhuri, a 20-year-old right-arm leg-spinner from Delhi, went viral after celebrating a wicket with the now-popular ‘6-7’ hand gesture during the Women's Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2026. She performed it after dismissing South Delhi Superstarz batter Nishika Singh in Central Delhi Queens' opening match on August 20.
Singh was caught by Arushi Goel at mid-wicket in the 16th over. Bidhuri then raised and lowered both hands in the distinctive gesture. She finished with figures of two wickets for 24 runs in four overs, although Central Delhi Queens lost the match by 29 runs.
The celebration had a personal story behind it. Bidhuri had initially wanted to wear jersey number 12, but the number was already taken. Her younger sister suggested she choose 67 instead and turn the popular ‘6-7’ trend into her signature wicket celebration.
Speaking to The Times of India after the match, Bidhuri said her younger sister had encouraged her to adopt the gesture.
“This ‘six-seven’ thing is trending a bit, and my younger sister, who’s like a brother to me, told me to wear jersey number 67 and keep this as my celebration,” she said.
The celebration soon crossed tournament boundaries. NDTV reported that Chahal recreated the gesture while playing for Northamptonshire against Lancashire in the County Championship at Old Trafford in Manchester. He performed it after dismissing Lancashire batter Joe Moores. Northamptonshire won the match, played from August 20 to 23, by 316 runs.
Beyond the viral moment
The attention surrounding the celebration introduced Bidhuri to a wider audience, but she was already an established prospect in Delhi's domestic cricket system.
She has represented Delhi at the Under-19 level and has been part of the state's domestic setup for several years. One of her notable performances came in the 2025 Delhi Premier League final, when she played for South Delhi Superstarz against Central Delhi Queens.
Defending a modest target of 121, Bidhuri produced a decisive spell, taking three wickets for 26 runs in three overs. South Delhi Superstarz eventually won the final by just one run.
Her performances had also brought her into the wider Women’s Premier League conversation. NDTV reported that she was among the players registered for the 2024 WPL auction.
Bidhuri represented Central Delhi Queens in the 2026 edition of the Women's Delhi Premier League, which began on August 20 and concluded on September 2. Her team finished third in the four-team competition, with two wins and four defeats from six matches.
North Delhi Strikers went on to win the title, beating South Delhi Superstarz by six wickets in the final.
Although the tournament has ended, Bidhuri’s celebration remains one of its most recognisable moments. Its journey from a domestic women's competition in Delhi to an English county fixture gave the young spinner exposure well beyond her usual cricketing circuit.
For Bidhuri, however, the viral gesture is only one part of a career she has been building through years of competitive cricket. The attention may have come through a celebration, but her performances with the ball provide the substance behind the growing interest in her.
