Legendary Indian singer Lata Mangeshkar has died, Indian media reported. She was 92.

Mangeshkar, fondly called the nightingale of India, was admitted to the hospital on January 8 after she was diagnosed with Covid-19 and pneumonia.

According to the Indian Express, Breach Candy hospital medical director said that Mangeshkar passed away at 8:12am.

“She came here as a Covid patient and age was against her. We tried our level best to save the legend. But she had complications,” the newspaper quoted the medical director.

Born on September 28, 1929 in Madhya Pradesh, Mangeshkar, one of India’s most versatile singers, had lent her voice to thousands of songs in 36 languages in a career spanning almost eight decades.
