In a statement issued on the eve of the Prithvi Jayanti, the deposed monarch said he had relinquished power for national interest, people’s happiness and prosperity.
“But what everyone should not forget is that I haven’t left my Nepali home, and have not given up my responsibility of Nepal and the Nepali people,” Shah stated.
He remarked that the people were at the receiving end of disputes over the issues of geography, governance and administration. “The need of the hour is what kind of responsibility, role and trust Nepali people want from whom,” Shah stated.
He left the erstwhile Narayanhiti Royal Palace on June 11, 2008 after the government ordered him to vacate it following a parliamentary resolution to abolish monarchy.
