Sudurpaschim Provincial Head Najir Miya prorogued the fifth session of the provincial assembly effective from midnight on Monday, acting on the recommendation of the provincial cabinet.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Monday decided to end the session and forwarded the proposal to the provincial head. According to the Provincial Assembly Secretariat, the session was officially prorogued from Monday midnight.
The fifth session of the assembly had commenced on August 11. However, it was repeatedly obstructed by opposition parties, who accused the government of increasing public expenditure through various appointments and decisions. As a result, the assembly meetings could not be conducted in recent weeks.
The Nepali Congress leads the ruling coalition in Sudurpaschim and includes the CPN-UML and Nagarik Unmukti Party. The opposition comprises the CPN (Maoist Centre), CPN (Unified Socialist), Rastriya Prajatantra Party, and an independent lawmaker.
