The ward chairman of Malikarjun Rural Municipality-3 has been arrested on charge of raping a woman.

Ward chairman Madan Singh Dhami was arrested from the district headquarters of Khalanga on Wednesday after a woman accused him of rape, said Police Inspector Gaha Magar.

According to police, Dhami had absconded after allegedly committing the crime on February 3. The victim had registered a police complaint at the Darchula District Police Office against the accused on February 17.

The district court has extended Dhami’s custody by a week for further investigation.
