Tension ran high in Dhangadhi of Kailali district on Friday afternoon after students continued their protests against the death of a 14-year-old girl in a road accident.
Although the District Administration Office (DAO), Kailali, clamped a 24-hour prohibitory order in the city on Thursday, students have been protesting at different places, defying the order.
Shiva Raj Joshi, information officer at District Administration Office, said police have arrested five demonstrators.
In aftermath of the protest that broke out as a girl died after being crushed by a grader on Thursday morning, the district administration office issued the order in Dhangadhi from Thursday 7pm to Friday 7pm.
Deputy Superintendent Bed Prakash Joshi, spokesperson of the District Police Office, Kailali, said that the prohibitory order was issued to prevent further deterioration of the peace and security situation.
Jyoti Bhatta, President of Panchodaya School’s Guardian Association, said that although discussions are underway with parents of the deceased at the district police office, the demonstration of the students on the streets is getting out of control.
Information Officer Joshi said the parents of the deceased have been asked to agree to seek legal remedies and asked them not to join the agitation.
“It is everyone’s responsibility to take the situation under control,” he said.
