Storm victim’s family gets Rs 25,000
Two people were killed and over a hundred injured when the windstorm tore through three districts in western Nepal—Kailali, Kanchanpur and BardiyaGanesh Chaudhary
The family of Lahanu Chaudhary, who was killed in a windstorm at Tikapur Municipality-2 on Thursday evening, received Rs25,000 as relief on Saturday. A team of municipal officials, including Mayor Tapendra Rawal, handed over the amount to the deceased family. Chaudhary was killed after being crushed by a wall of his poultry farm.
Two people were killed and over a hundred injured when the windstorm tore through three districts in western Nepal—Kailali, Kanchanpur and Bardiya—on Thursday evening.
Local units have started collecting details of the destruction. Mayor Sher Bahadur Chaudhary of Bhajani Municipality said that they had decided to provide Rs5,000 to those whose houses were destroyed in the disaster.
Officials from Lamkichuha Municipality and Janaki Rural Municipality said they have been collecting details of damage.
According to them, the victim’s families will be provided compensation amount after making decisions at the council meetings.
The storm-hit areas in Dhangadhi and Mahendranagar have been without power supply since Thursday evening as the strong storm knocked down trees and electricity poles. About 3,000 houses incurred damage in Kailali and 200 in Kanchanpur.
According to the initial police report, 79 people were injured in Kailali and 23 in Kanchanpur. They were taken to hospitals in Nepalgunj and across the border in India for treatment.
