Subash Tamang wins Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship in playoff

Subash Tamang won the title of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship, the eighth and final event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025-26, at the par-72 Gokarna Golf Club on Friday.
Tamang defeated Bhuvan Nagarkoti and amateur Sadbhav Acharya in the first playoff hole. The winner was decided on sudden death after three players were tied at 18-under 270 after 72 holes. Tamang won the trophy with a par on the 10th hole after both Nagarkoti and Acharya missed their par putts.
Tamang, who started the day one stroke ahead of Nagarkoti, carded 3-under 69 in the final round for 18-under 270 total. Nagarkoti carded 4-under 68, while Acharya fired a bogey-free 6-under 66 to force a playoff.
Along with the trophy, Tamang received Rs320,000.
Tamang, Nagarkoti and Sukra Bahadur Rai were tied at 14-under after three holes, while Nagarkoti opened up a three-stroke lead after the completion of the front nine. Nagarkoti carded 4-under 32, while Tamang played even-par 36 and Rai carded a 33.
Tamang cut the deficit to one stroke after 14 holes, and he took the lead on the next hole after Nagarkoti suffered a double bogey following an OB (Out of Bounds) with a tee shot. Rai was out of the race after he too dropped two shots on the 15th hole.
Nagarkoti levelled the scores with a brilliant chip for a birdie on the 17th hole. Acharya, playing in the chasing group, had levelled the scores at 18-under after holing a birdie putt from 35 feet on the final hole.
Runner-up Nagarkoti received Rs206,000, and he ended the season at the top of the Order of Merit. He bagged a total of four titles in the current season and topped the chart with a total earning of Rs1.03 million.
Acharya claimed the amateur section trophy after he registered an 8-stroke victory over Rahul Bishwakarma, who managed an even-par 72 in the final round for 10-under 278 total.
Tenzing Tsering came third in the amateur section with a total score of 7-under 281, followed by Wangchen Dhondup, Norbu Tsering Sherpa and Ritesh Tamang as six amateurs finished in the top 10.
Among the pros, Rai came third at 15-under 273 after he carded 3-under 69. He received Rs162,000. Dinesh Prajapati came fourth at 3-under 283 and earned Rs145,000. Niraj Tamang was fifth at even-par 288 and got Rs128,000. Bhuvan Kumar Rokka, Toran Bikram Shahi and Sanjay Lama shared the 10th position overall and sixth among pros at 1-over 289. They received Rs96,333 each.
Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Managing Director Gaurav Tayal and PGA Nepal President Rabindra Man Shrestha handed over prizes to the winners. A total of 68 golfers, including 46 pros and 22 amateurs, took part in the flagship event of the Surya Nepal Golf Tour. The tournament carried a fat purse of Rs1.8 million. All pros finishing inside the top 18 received prize money.
The tournament comes to an end on Saturday with a Pro-Am event, featuring 25 professional golfers and 100 corporate-level amateurs in an engaging and competitive format designed to provide valuable exposure to emerging talents.
