Kantipur Max Television has secured exclusive broadcast rights in Nepal for the 20th Asian Games, which will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.

Preliminary sporting events are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, with the official opening ceremony set for Saturday.

“Kantipur Max will broadcast the Asian Games live, with Digo as our digital OTT streaming partner,” said Mahesh Swar, chief executive officer of Kantipur Media Group.

“We remain committed to showcasing international events involving Nepali athletes. Broadcasting Nepal’s performances on domestic television marks a historic moment for sport in our country.”

Nepal is sending a 184-member delegation to Japan, comprising 135 athletes, 57 women and 78 men, competing in 21 sports. The delegation also includes 29 coaches, 17 team managers, two technical officials and a six-member medical team.

The 135 athletes will compete across the 21 disciplines. Kabaddi has the largest contingent with 24 athletes, followed by cricket with 15, volleyball with 12, wushu with 10, karate with eight and boxing with seven. Athletics, judo, table tennis and wrestling each have six athletes, while swimming and tennis have five each. Badminton, golf and soft tennis will each have four athletes, and three will compete in taekwondo. Archery, cycling, rafting and canoeing, skateboarding and squash will each have two athletes.

Kantipur Max recently broadcast the ACC Premier Cup cricket tournament and the English Premier League. Its previous sports coverage has included the Indian Premier League and the Wimbledon Championships.
