Oman defeated Nepal by 102 runs under the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern (DLS) method in a rain-affected ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 match at the Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Wednesday.
Chasing 306, Nepal were 155 for 7 in 36.5 overs when rain abandoned play. At that stage, they were well behind the DLS par score, handing Oman a comfortable victory.
Oman posted 305 for 8 in 50 overs after opting to bat first. Captain Jatinder Singh led the charge with a commanding 130 off 96 balls, hitting 15 fours and five sixes. His innings accounted for 90 runs through boundaries and marked the highest ODI score by an Omani batter.
Jatinder shared an 80-run opening stand with Ashish Odedara, who made 23 off 48 balls. Nepal struck first through Sandeep Lamichhane, who removed Odedara in the 15th over.
Oman rebuilt through steady partnerships in the middle order. Aryan Bisht scored 35, while Hamad Mirza added 30. Jiten Ramanandi chipped in with 43 as Oman maintained a strong run rate throughout.
Nepal’s bowling was led by Sompal Kami, who took four wickets but conceded 59 runs in nine overs. Sandeep and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed two wickets each.
In reply, Nepal suffered an early setback when Kushal Bhurtel was dismissed for one, trapped lbw by left-arm spinner Shakeel Ahmed in the second over. Aasif Sheikh made 19 off 25 balls with two boundaries before falling, while captain Rohit Paudel managed 10.
Bhim Sharki provided some resistance with 28 off 56 balls, but Nepal kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Aarif Sheikh scored 14 before Dipendra Singh Airee played a fighting knock of 60 off 62 balls, hitting seven fours and one six.
However, Dipendra’s dismissal in the 36th over further dented Nepal’s chase. Gulshan Jha (14 not out) and Sompal Kami (2 not out) were at the crease when rain halted play.
Nadeem Khan was Oman’s most successful bowler with 3 for 42 in 10 overs. Shakeel Ahmed took 2 for 16, while Mohammad Imran and Wasim Ali picked up a wicket each.
The result marked Oman’s first win in the series, while Nepal had earlier defeated the UAE by 37 runs. Oman had lost their opening match against the UAE by 25 runs.
In the standings, Oman are third with 31 points from 26 matches, while Nepal remain seventh with 14 points from 22 games.
