ANFA senior vice president seeks clarification from general secretary
If the clarification is not submitted within the deadline, Khadka has warned of necessary action under the ANFA’s laws.
Post Report
Bir Bahadur Khadka, senior vice president of the All Nepal Football Association, has sought a written clarification from Kiran Rai, general secretary at the governing body of Nepali football, on Wednesday.
Khadka, who sought clarification as the acting president, has given a three-day ultimatum for the explanation. Khadka is the acting president in the absence of ANFA President Pankaj Bikram Nembang as per Articles 42 and 44 of the ANFA Statute. The provisions in the articles state that ‘senior vice president will deputise president in his absence’.
Nembang is currently in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for the AFC Member Associations and Regional Associations Presidents’ and General Secretaries’ Conference taking place from October 17 to 19.
ANFA General Secretary Rai is also expected to join Nembang in Riyadh soon for the conference.
“ANFA’s General Convention in Dhulikhel on May 9 sanctioned Rs104.622 million for the organisation of the Matryr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League from December 16,” the letter seeking clarification from Rai states. “Under which authority did you [Rai], on Tuesday, without consulting the executive committee, declare that the ‘home and away’ league would not take place?”
Rai had called a press meet on Tuesday and said that the ‘A’ Division League, in the proposed home-away format, was not possible this season.
According to Khadka, the statement by the general secretary tarnished the image of the ANFA at the global level, while raising concerns among football fans, players, coaches, referees and stakeholders.
“You have committed a crime by amending ANFA’s General Convention’s decisions solely,” the letter states. “I direct you to submit a written clarification within three days regarding why an action should not be taken against you.”
If the clarification is not submitted within the deadline, Khadka has warned of necessary action under the ANFA’s laws.
Khadka, alongside ANFA’s Vice President Birat Jung Shahi and Executive Committee members Rabindra Chand and Rupesh Adhikari, had also organised a press meet on Monday demanding the resignation of Nembang and Rai for their inability to adhere to the commitments of the ANFA.
