Nepal set Japan a target of 150 runs after scoring 149 for one in a rain-shortened match at the 20th Asian Games in Japan on Saturday.

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, Nepal were restricted to 15 overs a side after rain delayed the start by about an hour. The toss was held on time, but the wet conditions prevented play from beginning as scheduled.

Sandeep Jora and Lokesh Bam both hit unbeaten half-centuries as Nepal finished strongly.

Bam smashed 52 not out from just 22 balls, hitting six sixes and a four. He became the second Nepal batter to score a half-century in the tournament after two matches.

Jora also remained unbeaten on a half-century as Nepal posted 149 for one from their 15 overs.

Nepal entered the match after a five-wicket victory over Afghanistan, while Japan were looking to make the most of home advantage. The result will determine Nepal’s position in Group A and their prospects of reaching the quarterfinals.
