A look into Nepal’s remaining football activities for 2025
Nepali football fans will then be cheering for the women’s team as they travel to Sikkim for a friendly with India on October 26.
Post Report
The All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), on Tuesday, revealed a list of major footballing activities remaining in 2025.
According to the list, the first and second legs between Vietnam and Nepal in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers are the closest ones. The two matches, which should have been played in a home/away format, will be hosted by Vietnam alone as Nepal do not have an eligible stadium.
The first leg is being played on October 9 and the second on October 14. Nepal’s head coach Matt Ross has called 33 players for a closed camp starting today (September 23) for the preparation of the two fixtures.
Nepali football fans will then be cheering for the women’s team as they travel to Sikkim for a friendly with India on October 26.
The eyes will then be turned on domestic football as the ANFA President League kicks off on November 2; whether the tournament will be played outside the Kathmandu Valley or not is yet to be confirmed. A day later, the ANFA U16 Youth League will also begin.
The Nepali men’s senior team will then have to host Malaysia for the second leg of the Asian Cup Qualifiers on November 18. However, as the suspension over Dasharath Stadium might not be lifted by then, Nepal might not host their home match again and travel abroad, either to Malaysia or a neutral venue.
Meanwhile, new clubs will be looking for an entry to the country’s club competition as the ANFA will begin the qualifiers for the Martyr’s Memorial ‘C’ Division League on November 20. As per the calendar, 38 teams will be competing in the tournament across 25 days.
Similarly, Nepal’s women’s team, with Chinese Taipei, will travel to Indonesia for a tri-nation friendly from November 26 to December 2.
Nepal’s home of football, the Tripureshwar-based Dasharath Stadium, will then host the first-ever SAFF Women’s Club Championship, a tournament between the winners of the top-tier club football competition of five countries—Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Pakistan, from December 5 to 20.
From December 15, the ANFA U18 Youth League will start at the ANFA Complex in Satdobato, Lalitpur.
And on December 24, the most-awaited Martyr’s Memorial ‘A’ Division League is expected to begin. The six-month-long tournament could be played in a home/away format, but with the clubs not having their home ground, it seems an outstretched plan by the ANFA. The ANFA has also been holding discussions over the proposed format with the clubs, and a final confirmation is being awaited.
The Lalitpur-based Chyasal Stadium will then host the ANFA Women’s Championship between 12 teams from December 26 to January 6.
The ANFA has also revealed three other events that will begin in early 2026. From January 23 to February 17, the Martyr’s Memorial Women’s League will be held between 10 teams. Six of the top teams in the league will then play at the Martyr’s Memorial Women’s Super League from February 21 to 28.
As part of their final match of the group stage in the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers, Nepal will play Laos on March 31 next year. The ANFA plans to be capable of hosting this fixture in Nepal itself, but they will need to either prepare another international-standard stadium or repair Dasharath Stadium and have the AFC lift the suspension.
