Nepal suffered a 4-0 defeat against Bangladesh in their final Group A match of the SAFF U-17 Championship at the Colombo Racecourse Stadium on Thursday.
Nepali youngsters’ hopes for the semi-finals now rest on the result of the Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh fixture, which is taking place on September 21.
Md. Sabir Islam opened the scoring for Bangladesh in the 30th minute. The score remained 1-0 in Bangladesh's favour until the first half concluded.
Bangladesh then scored three more in the second half.
The goal from Md. Opu Rehman in the 49th minute was followed by a quick successive goal by Md. Arif in the 50th. Md. Manik scored again for Bangladesh in the 66th minute to seal a dominant win over Nepal.
Nepal had defeated Sri Lanka 2-0 in the tournament opener on September 15. However, after the loss to Bangladesh, Nepal will have to wait for a favourable result when the hosts, Sri Lanka, face Bangladesh on September 21.
