A total of 10 clubs are participating in the third season of the Stag Global Champions League, the domestic table tennis tournament with the highest purse, taking place from August 17 to 22. Organised annually since 2023, the second season saw eight participants.
This season, players will be representing Yala Table Tennis, Hopes Table Tennis Academy, AVM Table Tennis Club, The Dragons Table Tennis Club, Kirtipur Municipality, Vortex Nepal Table Tennis Club, Old House Restro, Topspin Table Tennis Goods Nepal and Kholcha Pukhu Sports Sub-committee, alongside the hosts—Stag Champions Table Tennis Academy.
Backed by All Nepal Table Tennis Association and organised by Stag Champions Table Tennis Academy (SCTTA), the third season will see participation from players from four other countries, the organisers informed at a press conference in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
“The clubs have brought foreign players from China, India, Pakistan and Chinese Taipei,” said Nabita Shrestha, director at SCTTA. “Every team can have up to one foreign player each in the male and female categories.”
To make the tournament more competitive, SCTTA has increased the tournament’s cash prize to Rs600,000 from Rs400,000 last season.
“The winning team will receive Rs300,000 this season,” said Shrestha. “The runner-up will get Rs150,000 while the two third-placed teams will walk away with Rs75,000 each.”
The teams will be facing nine of their opponents in a single round-robin league structure.
AVM won the first season while the second went to Nepal Police Club (NPC). But the defending champions are not participating this season.
