Junior athletes shatter more records

The 15th Central President Running Shield, Nepal’s biggest sporting event for junior athletes, saw four more records bettered on Thursday.
The three-day event kicked off on Wednesday at Dasharath Stadium with two records bettered in athletics. The four records bettered on Thursday were also in athletics.
Lumbini Province’s Rahul Tharu bettered the record in boys’ javelin throw. His javelin travelled 57.40 metres away. Tharu bettered the record of 55.50-metre distance set by Dhirendra Jung Shah in 1998. Karnali’s Sushant Nepali came second and Sudurpaschim’s Lokesh Aidi third.
Likewise, Gandaki’s Narayani Bhandari broke the junior record in the girls’ 800m race. She crossed the finishing line with two minutes and 17.9 seconds on the clock. She was followed by Bagmati’s Bhagwati Khadka and Sudurpaschim’s Sangita BK for silver and bronze medals, respectively.
Bhandari bettered the record set by Sarita Khadka (2 minutes, 28.5 seconds) in the previous edition.
Likewise, the records in both boys and girls categories of the 4×400m relay race were bettered on the second day of the three-day event, both by Bagmati.
Bagmati’s team of Prabin Rana Magar, Niraj Tharu, Hasta Sunar and Shanta Bahadur Rai finished the relay race in the boys’ category in 3 minutes and 30.9 seconds. The previous record in the category was 3 minutes and 31 seconds, set last year.
Likewise, Bagmati’s Dina Gopali, Anisha Tharu, Bhagawati Khadka and Asmita Bhujel finished the relay race in 4 minutes and 12.8 seconds. The previous record in the event was 4 minutes and 17.2 seconds set by Bhawana Pharsal, Sarita Khadka, Himali Shahi and Krishna Rana in 2024.
