Chhetri vice chairman of Kukkiwon Int’l Committee

Raju Chhetri, a Master Instructor from Nepal, has been appointed vice-chairman of the International Committee under World Taekwondo, the governing body of global taekwondo.
Chhetri was sworn into the responsibility by Kukkiwon President Lee Dong-sup, Kukkiwon former general secretary Choi Man Sik and Kukkiwon’s technical committee chair Park Cheon-jae at the World Taekwondo Headquarters, aka Kukkiwon, in South Korea.
He will hold the post until January 31 next year.
Also an international referee of the sport, Chhetri has been a regular in the US Open Championship since 2023. He has also officiated world tournaments in South Korea and Japan.
“I am proud to become the first foreign master to be appointed to the post,” said Chhetri, who also had a good time as a player. He had won gold in the Korean Open, a G-2 level tournament held in 2008. Honouring Chhetri’s contribution to taekwondo, the South Korean government granted him honorary citizenship in 2013.
