Football fans in Nepal are in for a treat as Brazilian football legend Roberto Carlos is set to visit the country for the Nepal Super League (NSL) Season 3. The former Real Madrid and Brazil left-back will be a special guest at the tournament, adding international prestige to Nepal’s football scene.
The NSL on Saturday revealed that Carlos will be attending the tournament. While a fixed date has not been announced, Carlos is said to be in Nepal when the NSL reaches the qualifiers. The qualifiers, eliminator and final of NSL Season 3 are scheduled to take place from April 19 to 23.
Carlos, known for his iconic free kicks and stellar career with Real Madrid and the Brazilian national team, will be making a guest appearance as part of NSL’s efforts to bring global football figures to Nepal. His visit is expected to generate excitement among fans and provide inspiration to local footballers.
“Good luck to all the participants in the Nepal Super League…Football brings people together, inspires talents and turns, of course, dreams into reality,” Carlos said in a video message posted by NSL on its social media. “It will be incredible to see the growth of the sport there in Nepal.”
Carlos continued, “To the young players, keep working hard and play with joy. You deserve it, you are the future…I am looking forward to visiting Nepal and experiencing the passion for football in your country.”
Carlos will be the second legendary footballer to grace Nepal in 2025. In early March, Italy’s World Cup-winning goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon was in Nepal for the third season of the KP Oli Cup.
Carlos played for Brazil national team in three World Cups, winning the 2002 edition jointly held in South Korea and Japan. He has also won the UEFA Champions League and La Liga with Real Madrid three and four times, respectively.
