The Excelsior School is set to host the 11th Excelsior Cup from Wednesday. The tournament will feature five-a-side futsal and basketball competitions, Principal Prashant Rajak said.

Boys’ futsal will be contested across four age categories, while basketball will have two categories. In futsal, nine teams will compete in the U-9 category, 14 in U-11, 12 in U-14, and 12 in U-16, following a league-cum-knockout format. Basketball will see 16 senior boys’ teams and 12 girls’ teams, basketball coach Aashish Maharjan said.

For the first time, the U-9 futsal category has been introduced to identify young talents from the grassroots level, said Excelsior’s sports department head Mahesh Malla Thakuri. The matches will be played at the school’s premises in Swoyambhu.
