Thailand defeated Nepal by 4 wickets in the ongoing Triangular Women’s T20 Series at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Saturday. Chasing a target of 102, Thailand completed the chase with six balls to spare, thanks to a brilliant unbeaten 60-run knock from Nannapat Koncharoenkai.
Koncharoenkai’s performance, which came off 58 balls with 5 fours, followed her earlier 56 not-out against the Netherlands, helping Thailand seal their second consecutive victory. Thailand had defeated the Netherlands by 8 wickets on Friday.
Other key contributions came from Suwanan Khiaoto with 14 runs, and captain Naruemol Chaiwai, who made 13. Nepal’s Manisha Upadhyay was the standout bowler, claiming 2 wickets in her 4 overs for just 13 runs, making her international bowling debut. Kabita Kunwar, Rubina Chhetri, and Kabita Joshi took 1 wicket each.
For Nepal, the batting lineup struggled, posting a modest total of 101 runs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Openers Samjhana Khadka and Mamata Chaudhary were dismissed cheaply, while Indu Barma (15 off 17 balls), Puja Mahato (6 off 8), and Rubina Chhetri (4) couldn’t make significant impacts.
Kabita Kunwar and Bindu Rawal were the top scorers, both making 25 runs each. Kunwar faced 32 balls, hitting 2 fours, while Rawal struck 3 fours off 25 balls.
Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong led the bowling charge, taking 3 wickets for 17 runs, including 1 maiden over. Phannita Maya and Nattaya Boochatham picked up 2 wickets each.
With this loss, Nepal has now faced consecutive defeats, having lost to the Netherlands by 20 runs earlier in the series. Nepal’s next challenge comes against the Netherlands on Sunday.
Since Nepal’s entry into international T20 cricket in 2019, they have yet to defeat Thailand, having lost all three encounters with the Thai side. Thailand, who have played in the T20 World Cup, are visiting Nepal for the first time for this series.
