Madhesh United, one of the franchise teams of the Everest Women’s Volleyball League, has signed India national women’s volleyball team captain Jini Kovat Shaji as their third foreign signing.

Madhesh have already signed Kazakhstan’s outside hitter Yevginiya Kalinova and Tunisian middle blocker Yosrah Zeramdini in their team, which has Nepal national team member Niruta Thagunna as their marquee player.

The league will take place from September 30 to October 5 at the Dasharath Stadium’s covered hall in Kathmandu.

“We are very excited to sign Jini,” the club said in a press release on Tuesday.

“We believe that the arrival of Jini will strengthen our squad even more,” added Madhesh.

Jini, 28, guided India to a 23-25, 25-14, 22-25, 25-21, 15-5 win over Nepal in the final and CAVA Women’s Volleyball Nations League trophy in Kathmandu last month.

“I have played in Nepal four times. I will come to Nepal to play in the Everest Women’s Volleyball League next. We see you all in Nepal,” Jini was quoted by Madhesh, which also features national team members Sangam Mahato, Shantikala Tamang. Former national team members Puja Tharu and Hira KC are also in their squad.
