Police men will next play Help Nepal in the title battle on Saturday.Sports Bureau
The women’s team of Armed Police Force Club advanced into the final of the Prime Minister Cup NVA National Club Volleyball Championships after New Diamond Sports Academy fell short against Nepal Police Club in their final group match at the NSC covered hall in Tripureshwar on Friday.
Police had already entered the final on Wednesday with a match in hand, maintaining an unbeaten streak in the tournament and continued that run with a resounding 25-20, 25-14, 25-17 victory over New Diamond.
APF had boosted their chances for Saturday’s summit clash against Police, defeating New Diamond in straight sets in their do-or-die battle, two days ago. Had New Diamond emerged victorious, they would have sealed their place in the final.
New Diamond still had chances to pip APF, but they ran out of steam against title favourites Police and exited the competition, finishing third.
Police finished the group stage on top of the team standings on 15 points from five games. APF finished second on 11 points while New Diamond collected eight points.
Tribhuvan Army Club saw off Gandaki 25-18, 25-12, 25-15 to secure fourth position in the women’s category.
Police’s men’s team also reached the final with a 25-22, 25-13, 25-15 victory over APF.
The win gave Police 15 points with five wins and one loss.
Police will next play Help Nepal in the title battle on Saturday after the latter defeated Army 29-27, 21-25, 25-22, 39-37 to wrap up the group stage on top of the seven-team table with 16 points.
