Police women reach volleyball final

Nepal Police Club’s women’s team stormed into the final of the Prime Minister Cup NVA National Club Volleyball Championships with a 3-0 straight-sets win over Armed Police Force Club on Wednesday.
Police defeated APF 25-16, 25-15, 26-24 at the National Sports Council covered hall in Tripureshwar for their fourth consecutive straight-sets victory of the tournament, meaning Police earned 12 points from four matches to progress into the title clash with a match in hand.
The outcome means APF are now locked in the battle with New Diamond Club for a place in the final.
New Diamond and APF are square on eight points but the former sit in the second position and have a match in hand. They play against each other in Thursday’s must-win game for APF, who will crash out of the tournament if they lose.
Meanwhile, New Diamond can afford to lose against APF and can still make it to the final when they take on Police in their last group match on Friday.
The Army, Gandaki Province and Everest Club have already bowed out of contention.
In the men’s event, Tip Top Help Nepal and Tribhuvan Army Club strengthened their bid for final with wins over Nepal Police Club and APF Club, respectively.
Help Nepal chalked up a thrilling 25-20, 20-25, 30-28, 18-25, 24-22 victory over Police, also at the NSC covered hall, ending Police’s unbeaten streak in the tournament.
It was Help Nepal’s fourth consecutive victory.
Army also registered their fourth successive win after coming from behind twice to floor their departmental rivals APF 18-25, 26-16, 24-26, 28-26, 17-15 in a competitive encounter.
The result means APF’s winning run also came to a halt.

APF are third with 10 points after three wins and one loss. Police are one point behind on nine points.
Sailung Baghdhunga Sports Club defeated Dawali Milan Club 25-19, 14-25, 22-25, 25-21, 15-13.
The top two teams after the round robin league in both the men’s and women’s event will compete for the title.
