Second straight wins for Army, APF
The victory fetched APF two points and Army one point.Sports Bureau
Departmental giants Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club registered their second victories in a row in the men’s category of the Prime Minister Cup NVA National Club Volleyball Championships in Tripurshwar on Sunday.
Army grabbed a straight sets win over Dawali Milan Club with scores of 25-19, 25-11, 25-20 at the National Sports Council covered hall. Army had pulled off a similar comprehensive victory over Sailung Baghdhunga Sports Club in their opening match on Saturday.
APF overcame the first set deficit over Gandaki Province Volleyball Club to register a 3-1 sets victory. Despite losing the first set 21-25, APF bounced back in the next three sets to claim victory with scores 25-21, 25-23, 25-17. They had defeated Dawali Milan Club in their first match of the campaign on Saturday.
With their second victory, both Army and APF have earned six points each, while Dawali are yet to open scoring. Gandaki, who were defeated in 3-2 sets by Nepal Police Club on Saturday, have one point from two games.
Tip Top Help Nepal, bolstered by three Pakistani players in their squad, pulled off a thumping win over Sailung Baghdhunga Sports Club of Ramechhap. They registered a 25-12, 25-15, 25-19 victory to make a winning start to their campaign. They earned three points after their first game, while Sailung are without a point after two matches.
In the women’s section, APF were made to sweat it out for a 3-2 sets victory over Army. APF claimed the first two sets 30-28, 25-23, but arch rivals Army bounced back in the next two sets scoring 25-20, 25-19 wins. The match was then pushed to the decisive fifth set that saw APF beating them 15-6.
The victory fetched APF two points and Army one point.
The other match of the day saw New Diamond Youth Sports Club beat Gandaki Province 25-17, 25-16, 25-15; while Police chalked up their second successive victory defeating Everest Volleyball Club 25-10, 25-22, 25-6.
