Bajra Karate on May 5-6

Nepal Kyokushin Karate-Do Association Bajra (Bajra) is set to organise the 21st National Men’s Open and 14th National Women’s Weight Category Full Contact Karate Championships on May 5 and 6 at the Dasharath Stadium premises, Tripureshwor.
The event to be organsied by Bajra, a new discipline of Karate developed in Nepal by its president Jagat Gaucha, will feature players from all seven provinces. “There will be three weight categories in the women's section – heavyweight (above 60kg), middleweight (under 60kg) and lightweight (above 50kg),” said Pushpa Maharjan, the senior vice president of Bajra.
There will be an open weight category in the men's event which allows any weight category player to take part in the competition.
“We have formed Bajra as a home grown discipline of Karate incorporating strong aspects of taekwondo, boxing and thai boxing,” said Gaucha, adding that they have expanded the game to India and were planning to establish it in five continents across the globe.
The winners will get medals and certificates in addition to cash prizes. The expected cost of the event is Rs1.5 million.
