Police clinch Karate team championship title

Nepal Police Club clinched the team championship of the Krishna Prasad Bhattarai Memorial Karate Championships winning 10 golds at the Karate Academy Hall in Satdobato, Lalitpur on Friday.
Defending champions Police added two golds in their overnight tally among five golds on offer on the last day. They also took home two silver and three bronze medals.
Nepal Armed Police Force Club finished runners up securing six gold, three silver and five bronze medals. They won three golds on the final day. Tribhuvan Army Club finished third winning one gold, five silver and seven bronze medals. None of the seven provincial teams touched gold.
Bagmati Province took two silver and five bronze while Gandaki earned two silver and bronze medals each. Lumbini finished with a silver and three bronze, Sudurpaschim one silver and bronze each and Karnali Province one silver medal. Province 1 took six bronze and Madhesh Province two bronze medals.
The 13th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist Sunita Maharjan of Police secured women’s U-68kg gold defeating Bagmati’s Binita Shrestha. Nabin Rasaili of the same departmental team finished top in men’s U-67kg defeating Army’s Sunny Chaulagain.
APF’s trio of Manish Chaudhary (men’s U-55kg), Md Sekhu Alam (men’s U-84kg) and Subash Ghatani (men’s U-75kg) also secured gold medals.
Manisha Chaudhary of APF was declared best female player and Biplav Lal Shrestha of Police best male player of the championships.
The three-day event was organised by Godavari Municipality as part of the Krishna Prasad Sports Festival. The event saw participation of 10 teams including seven provincial and three departmental sides in 17 different categories.
