APF, New Diamond off to winning starts

Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and New Diamond Youth Sports Club made winning starts in the sixth National Women’s Volleyball Tournament that kicked off on Saturday at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall in Tripureshwar, Kathmandu.
Both APF and New Diamond registered straight-set wins on the opening day. APF edged past Nepal Police Club 25-20, 25-21, 25-21. Saraswati Chaudhary of APF was declared the player-of-the-match. New Diamond thumped Tribhuvan Army Club 25-20, 25-14, 25-10. Rima Kunwar of New Diamond was named the player-of-the-match.
Both Chaudhary and Kunwar received Rs10,000 for winning individual awards.
The winners of the tournament will get Rs300,000 and runners-up will walk away with a purse of Rs150,000.
Meanwhile, the Sher Bahadur Khadka Foundation feted Salina Shrestha, a libero for New Diamond and the national team, with a special award along with a purse of Rs50,000.
