Rai clinches Surya Nepal Eastern Open

Local pro Sukra Bahadur Rai won the Surya Nepal Eastern Open Golf Tournament—the second event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2022-23—at the par-70 Dharan Golf Club in Sunsari on Thursday.
Rai carded seven-under 63 for a total score of 17-under 193 to romp to an eight-stroke victory over fellow local professional Niraj Tamang. The Nepal number one professional golfer earned Rs140,000.
Tamang carded three-under 67 for a total score of nine-under 201. Tamang bagged a purse of Rs90,000.
Bhuvan Nagarkoti carded two-under 68 to finish the campaign in the third position with the total score of five-under 205. He claimed Rs67000.
Sanjay Lama slipped to fourth place after carding even-par 70 for a total score of four-under 206. He received Rs55,000.
Rame Magar finished fifth among the professionals to win Rs47,000. Magar scored one-under 69 for a total score of one-over 211.
Pros Dhana Bahadur Thapa (73) and Jayaram Shrestha (71) were joint sixth with the total score of two-over 212. They took home Rs38,750 each.
Dinesh Prajapati shot a round of even-par 70 for a total score of three-over 213 to claim the eighth position and got a check worth Rs34,000.
Local pro Bal Bhadra Rai finished ninth with the total score of five-over 215 after carding one-over 71. He got Rs32,000.
Surya Prasad Sharma finished 10th at seven-over 217 after he carded four-over 74 and earned Rs30,000.
Amateur Raj Kumar Rai bagged the amateur trophy with the total score of even-par 210. He carded two-over 72. He was overall fifth in the competition.
Yubaraj Bhujel finished runner-up with the total score of three-over 213 after carding one-under 69.
Sunder Rai was third among the amateurs at 10-over 220. He scored five-over 75.
A total of 40 golfers, including 29 pros and 11 amateurs, took part in the 54-hole tournament that carried a total prize amount of Rs 800,000.
