Weightlifters, wrestlers picked in preliminary phase for Asian Games

Sixteen weightlifters and 15 wrestlers were picked through a preliminary selection for the 19th Asian Games to be held from September 10-25 in Hangzhou, China.
In the men's lifting event Tularam Mahato of Tribhuvan Army Club was selected in the 61kg category, and Prakash KC of Nepal Police Club in 67kg. Army's Raju Chaudhary and Ashok Singh Bhandari of Kanchanpur were picked in 72kg division, Bikasb Bhatta of Kanchanpur in 81kg division, Bishal Singh Bista of Police in 96kg, Suvash Upadhyaya of Kanchanpur in under 109kg and Sgar Bhandari of Police in above 109kg division.
In the women's selection, Sangita Rai of Police and Manisha Ranabhat of Army were picked in 49kg, Sanju Chaudhary of Banke in 55kg, Army duo of Kamala Shrestha and Sharada Chaudhary in 64kg were picked through preliminary selection. Police lifters Junumaya Chhantyal in 76kg, Tara Devi Pun in under 87kg and Bidhya Rai in above 87kg were also picked for the second round of qualifiers.

In the men's 86kg wrestling, Police's Dipesh Raut Kankar and Army's duo of Adityaraj Yadav and Birendra Raut were picked. The 74kg division saw Army wrestler Suresh Chunara, Police's Gangaram Chamar and Dharmendra Prasad Yadav, and Banke's Fajil Raut Ahir qualify in the preliminary phase.
The women's 62kg division saw Army wrestler duo Sushila Chand and Nirmala Jagari, and Kanchanpur's Komal Khatri and Bimala Sunar secure place in the preliminary qualifiers. In the 57kg division, Shiwangi Dube and Laxmi Tamang of Army, Ambika Bhandari of APF and Manisha Singh of Kanchanpur were selected in the first phase.
The final phase of qualifiers for both games will be conducted after the number of quota allocation will be finalised.
Badminton
Nepal Badminton Association (NBA) picked seven male and female players each in the preliminary phase of qualifiers for the Asian Games. The players were picked after a three-day qualifier tournament among top ten ranked players of the country in both male and female's section.
According to NBA President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha, the final selection will be based on the rankings of the players in the qualifier once the quota allocation for the Games is finalised.
Junior world No 1 Prince Dahal secured top position in the men's qualifier. Nabin Shrestha, Praful Maharjan, top ranked and Nepal No 1 Dipesh Dhami, Bishnu Katuwal, Sajan Krishna Tamrakar and Sudip Sedai secured second to seventh positions, respectively.
In the women's qualifier, national champion Rashila Maharjan, Nangsal Devi Tamang, Jessical Gurung, Anumaya Rai, Nita Lamsal, Sunaina Mukhiya and Shova Gauchan secured top seven positions respectively.
