SAG gold medalists Thapa Magar, Shahi and Gurung reach final

All three gold medallists of the 13th South Asian Games Bhupendra Thapa Magar, Sanil Shahi and Minu Gurung advanced into the final of the Bir Ganesh Man Singh Memorial National Boxing Championships on Friday.
Nepal Police Club’s Thapa Magar overpowered Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club’s Sonam Sarki at the Basantapur Dabali to advance into the men’s 63 kg weight category final.
Thapa Magar will vie against Tribhuvan Army Club’s Puran Sunar in the gold medal match on Saturday. Sunar saw off Anil Pun Magar of Lumbini Province in the 63 kg semis.
Sahi defeated Sudurpaschim Province’s Bharat Chand in the men’s 69 kg semi-final to book a gold medal date with Army’s Dan Bahadur Darlami, who beat Sirish Khanal of Bagmati Province.
Gurung entered into the final of the women’s 51 kg weight division, overcoming Lumbini’s Maya Khatri. Gurung will battle against Police’s Deewana Sherma, who qualified for the final at the cost of APF’s Sanju Maya Thing.
In men’s 52 kg, Army’s Prem Chaudhary and APF’s Pradip Maharjan will meet in the Saturday final after they beat Police’s Chandra Bahadur Thapa and Madhesh’s Madan Krishna Dangol respectively.
In men’s 57 kg, Army’s Indra Sunar beat Police’s Shambhu Rajbanshi and APF’s Puran Rai conquered Gandaki Province’s Saugat Kumal to enter into the final.
Army’s Dipesh Lama and Province 1’s Sanam Gurung were the winners in the men's 75 kg final. Lama bested Madhesh’s Koshis Shrestha and Gurung tanked Karnali Province’s Dil Raj Bhandari in the semis.
The 81 kg final will see the battle between Army’s Dipak Shrestha and Sudurpaschim’s Shyam Bahadur Mahata for the gold. Shrestha and Mahata qualified following their wins over Province 1’s Prasang Limbu and Bagmati’s Roshan Shyangtan respectively.
APF’s Rabin Nepal and Army’s Ganesh Pradhan will vie against each other for the 91 kg gold. Nepal beat Gandaki’s Kiran BK and Pradan shocked Province 1’s Prashish Ruchal in the semis.
In the women’s 57 kg weight division semi-finals, Army’s Chandra Kala Thapa topped APF’s Nangja Budha Magar to set up a gold medal final with Police’s Nisha Tamang, who downed Province 1’s Susmita Rai.
Army’s Sangita Dangal and APF’s Sangita Sunar were the winners in the women’s 60 kg semi-finals. Dangal got the better of Bagmati’s Sasikala Rai and Sunar secured her final berth with a win over Province 1’s Narika Rai.
In women’s 69 kg, APF’s Binita Thapa Magar edged Lumbini’s Junu Maya Tharu and Army’s Punam Rawal eased past Madhesh’s Aparijita Gotani to enter the final.
In women’s 75 kg, APF’s Saraswati Rana went past Madhesh’s Puja Gupta to enter the final, where she will battle against Army’s Niru Gurung for the gold. Gurung won against Province 1’s Trisha Limbu in the semis.
