Gurung marches into semi-finals

The 13th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medallist Minu Gurung advanced into the women's 51kg weight division semi-finals at the Ganesh Man Singh Memorial National Boxing Championships on Thursday.
The Tribhuvan Army Club pugilist defeated Ashmita Duwal of Bagmati Province at the Basantapur Dabali to secure a last four spot. Maya Khatri KC of Lumbini also entered the semi-finals in the same division defeating Soniya Setthi of Sudurpaschim Province.
In women's 57kg weight category, Nisha Tamang of Nepal Police Club edged Sumina Khadka of Madhesh Province and Sushmita Rai of Province 1 saw off Sima Gurung of Gandaki Province to secure semi-final berths.
In the 60 kg quarter-finals, Narika Rai of Province 1 topped Surakshya Kumari Kumal while Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club's Sangita Sunar enjoyed a walkover from Samjhana Deula of Province 1.
The 69 kg weight division saw Janumaya Tharu of Lumbini overpower Asmita Chand of Karnali for a place in the last four.
In the men's 57kg weight division, Saugat Kumal of Gandaki and Puran Rai of APF earned semi-final berths conquering Aman Ali of Madhesh and Nisham Gharti Magar of Lumbini respectively.
Madan Krishna Dangol of Madhesh saw off Sandip Nath Sudurpaschim to book a semi-final ticket in the 52 kg division. He was joined by Pradip Maharjan of APF in the last four after earning a victory over Rohit Maharjan of Bagmati.
In men’s 63 kg, Puran Sunuwar of Army got the better of Mausam Rana Magar of Bagmati Province and Anil Pun Magar of Lumbini tanked Mahendra Chand of Sudurpaschim to book a semi-final ticket.
Dan Bahadur Darlami of Army beat Bikash Rana Magar of Lumbini and Sirish Khanal of Bagmati received a walkover from Abhinaya Rai of Province 1 in the 69kg category.
In men’s 75kg, Karnali's Dil Raj Bhandari beat Bhupendra BC of Sudurpaschim and Sanam Gurung of Province 1 bested Nishan Gurung of Gandaki to earn semi-final spots. Roshan Syangtan of Bagmati and Shyam Bahadur Mahata of Sudurpaschim marched into the 81kg semi-finals overcoming Kiran Lama of Madhesh and Manish BC of Gandaki respectively.
In the 91kg quarter-finals, Ganesh Pradhan of Army beat Dinesh Bhatta of Sudurpaschim and Prasis Ruchal of Province 1 edged Umanga Maharjan of Bagmati.
The semi-finals will be played on Friday.
