Bir Ganeshman Singh (BGS) Sports Committee on Monday announced it will organise three different sports events over two months starting from March 5.
The committee under Ganeshman Singh Foundation has announced to organise National Fencing and National Boxing Championships and Road Race amidst a press conference in the capital.
According to Sanjeeb Tuladhar, the coordinator of the sports committee, the National Fencing Championship in both men's and women's category will be held from March 5 to 7 at the Dasharath Stadium covered hall. Altogether six teams — Province 1, Bagmati, Gandaki and Sudurpaschim Province apart from Police and APF will compete in fencing. Nepal Fencing Association treasurer Anup Kapali has been appointed coordinator of fencing.
The Road Race will be held on April 30. Unlike in the past which only featured a 10km event, there will be an addition of 5km in this edition event both in men's and women's sections. The race road is an open event and will kick off from Kingsway in Kathmandu. Former chief athletics coach Sushil Narshing Rana is the technical director and Rajan Khatri is the director of the road race.
The Bir Ganeshman National Boxing Championships will take place from April 19 to 23 in Basantapur, Kathmandu. Altogether 10 teams — one team each from seven provinces and three departmental sides — will compete in boxing. The event will feature seven weight categories in men's section and five in women's category as per the standard Olympic weight division. However, the men's event will not have a super heavyweight division (91kg and above) due to players' crunches in the division.
Nepal Boxing Association former president Rajiv Shrestha is the coordinator of boxing and former chief boxing coach Prachanda Sharma is the technical director of the sport.
According to the committee, the expected cost of organising the three events is Rs9 million. Out of the total budget, Rs2.5 million has been allocated for fencing, Rs5 million for boxing and Rs1.5 million for road race.
