Parki, Shrestha win Bir Ganeshman 10K road race
It was the second year in a row that Parki and Shrestha, the 500m and 10,000m gold medallists of the regional Games in December 2019, have claimed top finishes.Sports Bureau
The 13th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medallists Gopi Chandra Parki of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) and Santoshi Shrestha of Dhading clinched the Bir Ganeshman Singh 10k Road Race in Kathmandu on Saturday.
It was the second year in a row that Parki and Shrestha, the 500m and 10,000m gold medallists of the regional Games in December 2019, have claimed top finishes. Parki clocked 31 minutes and 44.49 seconds to claim top position.
Parki bagged a purse of Rs60,000. He also set a new course record eclipsing his previous best timing of 32 minutes and 1.2 seconds. He got an additional amount of Rs10,000 for the feat.
Anish Thapa Magar secured second position clocking 31 minutes and 50.49 seconds while Tirtha Pun finished third timing 31 minutes and 56.38 seconds. Gajendra Thapa claimed fourth position and Narendra Rawat fifth. The second to fifth place finishers got Rs30,000, Rs15,000, Rs10,000 and Rs5,000, respectively.
Women's winner Shrestha clocked 37 minutes and 53.44 seconds to claim women's gold and surpass her own course record of 39 minutes and 10.18 seconds. She also received a cash prize of Rs70,000 in total including Rs10,000 for the course record.
Nepal Police Club's Rajpura Pachhai stood second with a time of 39 minutes and 30 seconds while APF's Phulmati Rana finished third clocking 40 minutes and 56 seconds. Purna Laxmi Neupa and Birsana Kumal secured fourth and fifth positions. The second to fifth place finishers received Rs30,000, Rs15,000, Rs10,000 and Rs5,000 respectively.
The event organised by Bir Ganeshman Singh Sports Committee began from Sherpa Mall, Durbar Marg and finished at the same point going through Ratnapark, Bhadrakali, Bir Hospital, Bhotahiti, Kaiser Mahar, Lainchaur, Lazimpat, Maharajgunj, Baluwatar, Tangal and Nagpokhari.
Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh, Ganeshman Singh Sports Committee coordinator Sanjeev Tuladhar, National Sports Council member Subash Shrestha and Nepal Olympic Committee general secretary Nilendra Raj Shrestha distributed prizes to the winners.
