Sabita Rana Magar netted a hat-trick and Dil Kumari Rana Magar scored a brace as Chandrapur Municipality came from one goal down to beat Chaudandigadhi Municipality 7-1 in the National Women's Football League on Monday.
Chandrapur were licking the wounds from their 6-0 humiliation by Armed Police Force Club in their opening match when they came to the ground and it seemed they were falling to a second consecutive defeat when Anjana Thulung fired Chaudandigadhi ahead in the 23rd minute bending a pass from Saraswati Chaudhari into the net.
Chaudandigadhi held on the lead until the final minutes of the first half but Dil Kumari cut the deficit pulling an equaliser from a corner from Sabita in the injury time.
It was a one-sided game after break at the ANFA Complex with Chandrapur dominating the possession, and quickly took the lead when Rajani Thokar put the ball superbly into the top corner from inside the box in the 47th minute.
Rajani almost got her second minutes later when her attempted shot was stopped by goalkeeper Devika Shrestha but a poor combination with the defence gave Sabita the advantage and she tapped in the team’s third. Sabita then scored her individual second in a one versus one with Devika in the 69th minute, before completing her hat-trick nine minutes later. It was again one on one with Devika and Sabita gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Chandrapur made it four in the 85th minute through substitute Sunita Bholan and Dil Kumari scored her brace in the additional time to wrap up the game and take their first three points.
It was a much needed win for the Chandrapur coach Noorraj Kafle after the opening loss. “We needed to win this game, which we did,” he said. “We conceded in the first half because of defensive lapses but we improved the game in the second half and we won.”
“After we lost in the defensive game against Nepal Police Club, we switched our tactic to attacking but lack of coordination among players resulted in a heavy loss,” said Chaudandigadhi coach Dipak Thapa.
The win sent Chandrapur level with Nepal Police Club on three points. Chaudandigadhi are at the bottom of seven team standing and are without a win after two matches.
On Tuesday, leaders Armed Police Force Club will lock horns with Tribhuvan Army Club while Nepal Police Club will face Waling Municipality.
