Himalaya Cricket League, a two-day tournament for the youth, is set to be held from Monday at the Mulpani cricket ground in Kathmandu.
The U-19 event being organised by Himalaya Sports Management Pvt Ltd will feature six U-19 teams, said Sudeep Sharma, the president of the organising committee.
Kathmandu Cricket Training Centre, Great Himalaya Cricket Academy, Himalaya Cricket Academy, Oasis Cricket Academy, Baluwatar Cricket Club and Nexus Cricket Academy are the participating teams.
It will be the first time that a two-day format game will be organised for youngsters at the domestic level. Stating the reason behind holding the two-day format, Sharma said: "Even senior players and the national team have been struggling to play in a 50-over format. So we want to create a base for the youth, who are the future of the national team."
The participating six teams are divided into two groups. Group 'A' consists of KCTC, Baluwatar and Oasis while the Group 'B' includes GHCA, Nexus and HCA. The winners of each group will qualify for the final. While the first innings will have 60-over per side, the second innings will have unlimited overs.
The winners of each match will get 10 points and in case of a tie, five points each will be divided between the two sides. The event will also have the provision of bonus points for scoring runs as well as wickets.
The 14-day event will have seven matches. The tournament will be played with red balls and in white dress, under technical support from the Cricket Association of Nepal. The winners will bag a purse of Rs150,000 and the runners up, Rs75,000. The man-of-the-series, best batsman, best bowler and the emerging players’ prize will be given to the winners as cash awards. The tournament is being sponsored by the Orchid International College.
