Yeoh, Bansod emerge winners in Nepal International Series badminton championships

Seng Zoe Yeoh of Malaysia and Malvika Bansod of India claimed the men’s and women’s singles title of the Annapurna Nepal International Series badminton championships at the Dashrath Stadium covered hall in Kathmandu on Sunday.
Yeoh stormed past Swarnaraj Bora of India in straight sets 21-19, 21-8 to win the decisive match of the men’s singles category. Bora had earlier put up a spirited comeback to defeat Nepal’s teen prodigy Prince Dahal in three sets in the last four clash to secure his spot in the final but failed to replicate his resurrection. Dahal was the first Nepali shuttler to make it to the semifinal round of men’s singles at any international series.
In the all-India women’s singles final, Malvika Bansod defeated Gayatri Gopichand Pullela 21-14, 21-18. The men’s doubles final saw Rohan Kapoor and Saurabh Sharma of India make easy work of Izzat Farhan Azhar and Zachary Chiong Shen Sia of Malaysia registering a 21-10, 21-12 win. In the women’s doubles category, Nepal’s Pooja Shrestha and Saurabh Sharma brushed aside the challenge of compatriots Jessica Gurung and Anu Maya Rai 21-15, 21-16.
In the mixed doubles final, Indian pair Venkat Gaurav Prasad and Juhi Dewangan were declared the winners after one of their opponents quit in the second set owing to injury. The duo were leading the match 21-19, 17-10 when Bowornwatanuwong Putthaporn of Thailand retired hurt. He was paired with Ririn Amelia of Indonesia.
