University Sports starts on Sept 26
The sports meet will see participation of nine Universities.Sports Bureau
Prime Minister Cup Inter University Sports Championship is all set to be held from September 26 to 28 at different venues in Kathmandu.
Organised by the National Sports Council and managed by National University Sports Association, the sports meet will see participation of nine Universities. Teams will compete in seven different sports including football, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, chess and athletics, said the general secretary of the association Chandra Bahadur Lama on Tuesday.
While football is scheduled to be held at the Nepal Army ground in Lagankhel, volleyball will be played at the Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre and basketball all the Acme Engineering College court. Athletics will take place at Nepal Army facility in Lagankhel, chess at the Pinnacle College in Lagankhel, table tennis at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lainchaur and Badminton at the Nepal Police Club in Exhibition Road.
Altogether 612 players will fight it out for 76 gold medals. The athletes will get daily allowance of Rs 1200 in addition to track suits and bags. The total cost of the three-day event is Rs 12.6 million out of which National Sports Council will provide Rs 3.5 million. The remaining amount will be collected through sponsors and advertisement, informed the Association.
