Simkhada wins Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal
Sadbhav Acharya claimed the junior category award with one-under 71 nett points.Sports Bureau
Pradhumna Simkhada clinched the fifth edition of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal at Gokarna Golf Club on Saturday.
Played under stroke-play format with full handicap allowance, Simkhada carded 11-under 61 nett score to win the title. Phintso Ongdi Lama ended up in second with four-under 68 nett points. Purna Bahadur Rai shot three-under 69 to finish in third. Tashi Dong claimed the best gross award with two-under 70. Sadbhav Acharya collected the junior category award with one-under 71 nett points. In all, 39 amateur golfers of the club participated in the tournament.
A total of 10 medal rounds will be played till December to decide the club championship. In each medal round, the top 10 golfers in nett category, top 5 players in gross category, and top 5 in the junior category are awarded certain points. First place in nett category from each event earns 100 points, runner-up receives 60 points, third-place finisher get 40 points and fourth-place individual earns 35 points. Golfers finishing from fifth to 10th place receive 30, 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5 points respectively.
In the gross and junior categories, top five scorers from each event earn points ranging from 100 for the winners to five points for those finishing at the 10th place. Top 40 golfers in nett category, top 10 in gross category and top five in junior category will qualify Club Championships final. The final will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
Simkhada leads the standing with 170 points after the fifth Medal rounds. Simkhada came into the fifth Medal round on Saturday languishing in eighth place. Babu Sherpa climbed one place up to second with 125 points. Last month's leader, Col Avaneesh Chambial dropped to third with 120 points. Joseph Nathan is in fourth position with 115 points. Ang Dendi Sherpa, Rabendra Raj Pandey and Vijay Shrestha Einhaus are tied for fifth at 100 points. Eu Jae Lee is eighth with 90 points. Wangchen Dhondup is ninth with 75 points. Tashi Dong is 10th with 70 points.
On the gross category, Wangchen Dhondup maintains his lead with 335 points ahead of his brother Tashi Tsering, who has 300 points. Tashi Dong is third with 165 points. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus is fourth with 160 points. Babu Sherpa is fifth with 60 points. In junior category, Sadbhav Acharya extended his lead by 200 points. He has 400 points so far. Ang Phurba Sherpa is second with 200 points. Mayank Dahal is third with 160 points, Shaswat Pradhan fourth with 120 points and Shreeyog Basnyat fifth with 40 points.
