Province 5 government has announced plans to build three stadiums in the province. The Social Development Ministry of the province has already allocated Rs 50 million each for the construction of the stadiums in Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city, Rapti Rural Municipality and Butwal sub-metropolitan city.

Chief of Sports Department under the ministry, Surya Prasad Bhusal said the ministry has swung into action regarding the construction of the stadiums. "We have already prepared the detailed project report (DPR) for two of the stadiums. Now the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure will start the construction work," said Bhusal. Bhusal said DPR of stadiums beside the one to be built in Rapti Rural Municipality have been completed. He added they are currently doing the feasibility study on the possibility of holding international sporting events in the stadium at Rapti Rural Municipality.

The DPR for the stadium in Butwal-13 was prepared by the metropolitan city in two months. The stadium will spread on the total 2.4 hectares of land, said engineer Rukmangad Basyal of the metropolitan city. "The stadium will have a football ground, an athletics track and a swimming pool for outdoor events while a covered hall will also be constructed which will host table tennis, basketball and badminton games," said Basyal. The stadium will also have a parapet with a seating capacity of around 12,000.

Basyal said with annual allocation of budget, the stadium will be completed in three years. The estimated cost of the stadium stands at 370 million rupees, Basyal added. Basyal added the ministry is also preparing the DPR for an international-standard stadium in Rapti Rural Municipality.

Similarly,the Ghorahi sub-metropolitan city has estimated a total cost of Rs 142.5million rupees for the construction of the stadium in Ghorahi. It will have acapacity of 8,000 spectators and have the indoor and outdoor facilities forfootball, athletics, swimming among others. Project chief at the metropolitanoffice Yubaraj Poudel said the stadium will spread in 19 bighas of land andwill also have a separate cricket ground. The municipality said the stadiumwill hold provincial and national level games.
