Nepal Taekwondo Association on Tuesday unveiled its plan to construct a high altitude training centre in Sailung Rural Municipality, Dolakha.
NTA said that it would complete the construction of the proposed training centre within the next three years. The NTA believes that training at high altitude will help increase endurance level of players which eventually help them raise their performance. The planned facility in Sailung in situated at an altitude of 2,850m to 3,000m and meets the criteria to call it a high altitude facility, said Sailung Rural Municipality Mayor Bharat Prasad Dulal.
Dulal handed over the ownership certificate of five ropanis of land to NTA President Prakash Sumsher Rana at a programme on Tuesday. "The municipal council meeting has decided to hand over the land upon the NTA request," said Dulal. "The municipality will provide all the support required to set up the academy." Dulal said the location not only meets the high altitude criteria but is also easily accessible by road, which is roughly 120km away from Kathmandu.
NTA General Secretary Deep Raj Gurung said they were still unsure of the total costs of the facility. Gurung, however, added that they would first inspect the site with the help of experts before coming up with a master plan. "Until then we can't say for sure how much it would cost to build the planned facility."
According to NTA, the academy will have residential facility where special training will be provided not just to the talented youths but also to the national and international players. "We will try to promote the facility as international training centre. It will also help promote tourism of the area," said Gurung adding that they would use the facility to conduct national and international seminars and trainings as well.
Gurungsaid NTA would appeal to the government, international donor agencies and otherstakeholders for financial and technical support to set up the facility.
