Babu Sherpa clinched Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup Kathmandu Qualifier on count back at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu on Saturday.
Sherpa got the better of Ola Tenzing on count back after the two golfers were tied on 42 points. Ten handicap Sherpa scored 23 against 18 of Tenzing on the back nine in the event played under stableford format with maximum allowance of 18.
With the win Sherpa entered the final of the 2019 Turkish Airlines World Golf Cup to be played in Antalya, Turkey in November.
Tashi Tshiring won the best gross award with 38 points. He was also honoured with special trophy in the memory of late Ang Tshiring Sherpa. Pemba N Sherpa finished second runner-up on count back with 41 points after he was tied with Rajat Rana and Lt Gen KNS Thapa.
Sherpa and Rana had 19 points each on the back nine while Thapa scored 17 points. The last six holes saw Sherpa scoring 14 against 13 points of Rana to secure third place finish. Mithun Rai was the closest to the pin in men’s category while Rekha Ghimire got the closest to the pin award among women.
Kashmira Shah won the women’s category title with a total of 39 points. She left behind Ghimire who accumulated 31 points. Ghimire herself finished runner-up in count back after tying on points with Kalyani Moktan. A total of 101 golfers had participated in the tournament.
