Asian Cricket Sixes Tour, an Australian cricket event organiser, is teaming up with Devibas Events and Media Pvt Ltd to organise the Nepal International Cricket Sevens in Nepal from September 20-22 in Pokhara.
The Tour, which is so far into its 53rd edition with the Nepal event, is formed by Aussie duo Bradley Tarr and Michael Maher in Perth’s Queens Tavern in Western Australia. The Nepal International Cricket Sevens will see the participation of 16 international teams who will compete in a five-over game but will have sole aim of raising funds for charity.
While the Tour will work in bringing in the participating teams, Devibas, which has previously organised U-16 Academy Cup and Marwadi Premier League Twenty20, will look after hosting the tournament and covering up the logistics. ACST will put auction-able cricket items to raise the funds, while other forms of charity includes penalising the players who get dismissed for duck out, golden duck out and player refusing to wear duck out medal.
“We have been organising this tournament all over Asia and people have generously spent money which will go for charity. I hope Pokhara is going to be the best venue ever for us because it has a scenic ground with mountains in the background. We believe that everyone is going to enjoy this tournament,” said ACST Chairman Michael Maher.
The tournament has so far been organised in different cities of Thailand, the Philippines and Macau. Devibas Managing Director Devendra Acharya was hopeful of getting a competitive cricket. “We came to know about this tournament when we last went to the Thailand edition. We wanted to bring it here and through the help of Sunil Lama (former Hong Kong international), we are hosting this tournament. We are hopeful to see a good amount of cricket played,” said Acharya.
Maher said the tournament was previously played by some known names of international cricket in Russel Arnold of Sri Lanka, Adam Hollioake of England and former Aussie fast bowler Gary Gilmour. Maher wants good teams to compete in Nepal. “We are looking forward to bring in some good teams from India, Pakistan, Australia and other well known big countries in world cricket,” said Maher.
