New Horizon Butwal and Tribhuvan Army Club recorded easy wins in the second Karnali Premier League Twenty20 cricket tournament in Surkhet on Friday.
In the first match, New Horizon beat Mahendranagar Cricket Academy by 71 runs while the Army team beat Laligurans Cricket Academy by 58 runs.
Batting first, New Horizon posted 166-4 and restricted Mahendranagar for 95 in 19.1 overs. Opener Sunil Dhamala laid the foundation for a big total for Horizon scoring quickfire 60 off just 40 balls. Man-of-the-match Dhamala’s knock was studded with eight fours and two sixes. Arjun Rayamajhi also contributed a 36-ball 40 with four boundaries and a six. Suraj Daria also played an 11-ball cameo scoring 21 runs with two fours and a six. Santosh Bhatta took two wickets while Bikash Agri and Bikram Thagunna claimed one each for Mahendranagar.
Bikash Shrestha and Shakti Gauchan put early brakes on Mahendranagar chase taking two wickets each. Santosh Bhatta top scored with 20- ball 22 while Md Sonu Ansari (11) was their next best contributor with the bat. Gauchan took 3-23 while Shrestha and Dhamala picked up two wickets each for Horizon.
In another match, Army rode on scintillating knocks from Raju Rijal and Kushal Malla to put 176-9. Laligurans were bowled out for 118. Army were struggling at 67-5 by the 10th over but Rijal and Malla rescued their team. Rijal scored 49, his 33-ball innings included three fours and a six. Malla’s unbeaten 42-run show was even more remarkable considering that he was batting at tailend Man-of- the-match Malla clobbered three sixes and two fours in his 21-ball cameo. Pranav Shah, Yash Kanadiya and Tilak Magar took two wickets each for Laligurans.
Laligurans never recovered from the early blows to be dismissed for 118. Vivek Rajup scored a fluent 27 off 26 balls while Pranav Shah made 13-ball 20. Jitendra Mukhiya, Hari Chauhan and Bhim Sarki claimed two wickets each for Army.
