Province 5 and Province 2 coasted to easy victories in the U-16 Cricket League at the Tribhuvan University Stadium on Thursday after bowlers dominated the game.
In the first match of the day, Province 2 eased past Province 1 by six wickets after they bundled out the opponents for just 78 runs in 15.5 overs. Province 2 reached the target in just 15.5 overs to take the gloss out of an allround display from Dipesh Kandel.
Province 2 had a terrible start after losing three wickets with just 17 runs on the board as Kandel picked up the first three wickets. But opener Sahil Kumar Patel halted the slide with a 59-run fourth wicket partnership with Pashuram Yadav leading the team to victory. Patel scored 35 off 38 with three fours and a six before falling prey to Kandel. Yadav contributed 26 off 33 with three hits to the fence. Kandel took 4-21 from 5.5 overs.
Man-of-the-match Bishal Patel had wreaked havoc in Province 1 top order earlier picking up first four wickets to fall. Province 1 hardly recovered from the early setback and were heading towards a humiliating total at 25-5. But Kandel offered a brief resistance adding 43 runs for the sixth wicket with Suman Surdas (seven). Kandel made 33 off 36 with six boundaries. Patel took 4-29 from four overs. Arbaz Ansari also took 4-3 from 3.5 overs, while Nikhil Singh took two wickets including that of Kandel.
Province 6 had a similar collapse in their six-wicket defeat to Province 5 after left-arm spinner Ramesh Kurmi took four wickets bundling out the opponents for 71 runs in 24.2 overs. Sushant Thapa scored an unbeaten 29-ball 31 with four boundaries to lead Province 5 to 72-4 in just 12.1 overs. Bishal Bikram KC also made an eight-ball 16 for Province 5 with two fours and a six.
Earlier, man-of-the-match Kurmi kept Province 6 batsmen on check after he picked up four wickets giving away just three runs in his six-over spell that included three maiden. Province 6 were 41-9 before a 10th wicket partnership of 30 runs between Yubraj Khatri and Benit Khatri (10 not out) saved their blushes.
Yubraj top scored for Province 6 with 17 off 33 balls with two fours. Bimal Jung Malla (13) and Bhivan Saru Magar (10) were other
batsmen to reach double figures. Apart from Kurmi, 11-year old Suraj Khadka and Prakash Giri also took two wickets each.
