Hosts Makwanpur XI take on Dauphins Family of Cameroon in the final of the Makwanpur Gold Cup football tournament on Saturday with both teams confident of walking away with the coveted trophy.
Dauphins will be gunning for the fifth domestic title in Nepal against the local team on Saturday. Dauphins have already won Mai Valley Gold Cup in Ilam, Tilottama Gold Cup in Butwal, Pokhara Cup and Budha Subba Gold Cup in Dharan. Dauphins secured a passage to the final after defeating top-tier teams Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club and Three Star Club, while Makwanpur had ousted Machhindra Club and Nepal Police Club on their way to the final.
Unlike most of their previous tournament where they scored number of goals, Dauphins have found it difficult to score in this tournament. They have only struck twice, both by Yannick, but have been strong defensively as they are yet to concede a goal. Makwanpur themselves have put in three goals past their opponents coming into the final and need to be wary of Yannick.
Makwanpur coach Bijay Lal Shrestha was confident of lifting the title. “Our players will be motivated playing in front of a huge crowd on Saturday. We are aware of their (Dauphins) physical strength but we will find a way to deal with that,” said Shrestha. Dauphins manager Ashik Thapa was equally confident of lifting the title. “We are performing way below our potential but we still have enough firepower to win the title,” said Thapa.
