Nepal defeated Sri Lanka 4-0 to reach the final of the fifth edition of the Saff Women’s Championship on Wednesday.
Punam Jarghamagar, Anita Basnet, Sabitri Bhandari and Rekha Poudel scored for the host side to reach the final for the fourth time at Sahid Rangashala in Biratnagar. The victory means Nepal has now won six consecutive matches against Sri Lanka scoring 23 goals and conceding none in the regional tournament.
Sri Lanka defended solidly in the first half before Jarghamagar’s goal in the 42nd minute. Their defensive performance dipped in the second half and Basnet pounded on the second goal in the 73rd minute. Bhandari added a third in the 82d and four minutes later, Poudel found the net for the fourth.
Nepal are yet to concede in the tournament and they will look to continue this record in the final when they will play against the winner of the other semi-final match between defending champion India and Bangaldesh. The other semi-final will be played at 3 pm today.
