Former Nepali national cricket team skipper LB Chhetri on Friday released his autobiography ‘Kaptaan 1998’— Captain 1998.

Chhetri is the first generation of Nepali cricketers who represented the country internationally through the 1996 ACC Trophy. He played under Uttam Karmacharya in the 1996 ACC Trophy—a regional 50-over tournament between the non-Test playing countries—as a vice-captain before going on to lead the country himlself in the next edition two years later.

After beginning his cricket from Indian city Kolkata, Chhetri returned to Nepal in 1994 and started playing club cricket, gradually cementing his place in the national team. Chhetri is also known as the Father of Women’s Cricket after he established a girls’ cricket team in Nepalgunj.

The move, criticised by many at his hometown, later on would lay the foundation to form a Nepali national women’s cricket team which went on to set several records at the age-group internationals.

The 240-page book is an account of Chhetri’s experience of playing in Kolkata, his journey from the Indian city to Nepal, playing for the national team, politics in Nepali cricket’s administration and problems he had to face while establishing women’s cricket. “In this book, I have tried to record my past and the things that went through me. I have written whatever I saw, experienced and believed was right. Its now on the readers how they judge it,” said Chhetri during the book release at the Nepal Academy Hall.

Former Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) President Binaya Raj Pandey, Karmacharya, ex national team skippers Binod Das and Pawan Agarwal along with former national women’s team captain Neera Rajopadhyaya released the book.
